Ark Corporation (Kohkai, Fujisawa-cho, Ichinoseki-shi, Iwate Prefecture, CEO: Hashimoto Shinei) is pleased to announce that Ark Tategamori, which it operates, has been selected in the "Food Space" category of the "Japan Space Design Award 2024," sponsored by the Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association (JCD) and the Japan Design Space Association (DSA).

Ark Tategamori will undergo large-scale renovations in 2022 and 2023, including the renovation of the 30-year-old farm market and restaurant, as well as the construction of a new entrance gate and a product processing and distribution center. Akira Kuryu + Kitagawa & Ueda Associates, which was in charge of the renovation design, applied for the Japan Space Design Award 2024, and was selected from over 900 domestic and international applicants in the "Food Space" category. The renovation project for the Ark Tategamori facility was recognized for expressing the founder's vision of the company's philosophy of "food is life" and "a place for interaction between producers and consumers" through a space that thoroughly visualizes the production process. The photos below are some of the photos used in the application.

About the Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association (JCD) and the Japan Design Space Association (DSA)

The Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association (JCD) was founded in 1961 with the aim of establishing a professional function for commercial environmental design and improving the quality of communication in urban society and the environment related to commercial activities. It was incorporated as an association in 1963. JCD is composed of creators from a wide range of spatial design fields, including interior designers, architects, spatial producers, planners, lighting designers, and graphic designers. Through activities such as design awards, symposiums, educational activities, research activities, seminars, journal publications, and publications, it has had a major impact not only in Japan but also in the design world overseas. In response to recent changes in social conditions, these activities have become even more diverse, contributing to the creation of new value in design.

Official website of the Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association (JCD)

Japan Design Space Association (DSA) is a public organization that takes a public role and engages in public interest activities that contribute widely to the economy, industry, society, and culture through the improvement of design technology, the management of design awards, symposiums, international exchange, research, publications, and other public awareness activities. Spatial design is the creation of highly media-rich, moving designs that convey messages that must be conveyed on the spot, using all possible methods to convey them in space, to express words, and to give people excitement and thrills. Our starting point is show windows and displays, as well as exhibitions, showrooms, promotions, cultural spaces, commercial spaces, and entertainment spaces. Furthermore, we are a group of creators that create spaces that make people's hearts "lively" through communication, such as architecture, cities, and landscapes.
