These small holes are called ``stomata,'' and they function to take in the oxygen necessary for the chick to grow, and to expel carbon dioxide gas (carbon dioxide) generated inside.
 
``Breathe in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide'' is exactly ``breathing”.
 
It's strange to think that a single egg, a small egg, contains the source of life.
