How vegetables grow in winter and how to deal with pests

The vegetables planted in early winter are growing little by little, and the number of crops that can be harvested is gradually increasing. In winter, when growth is slower than in the warm seasons, it is essential to take measures against pests.

The vegetable weevil, a representative winter pest, gets into vegetables to keep warm, and grows and raises its young while eating the vegetables inside. Mizuna, Komatsuna, etc. become ripped apart from the inside.
Vegetable weevils can be easily dealt with by using pesticides, but for us who are promoting the non-use of pesticides, they are a natural enemy in winter. We take measures by hanging insect-proof nets to prevent adult weevils from entering the greenhouse from the summer, but we are still unable to deal with those that emerge from the soil, and this remains an annual issue.

In addition, to deal with aphids, we spread homemade charcoal around the base of the plants and installed aphid tape, just like last year. This has been very effective, and we will be able to ship lettuce, chrysanthemum, etc. in good condition this year as well.

We will continue to work hard to provide beautiful, delicious and safe vegetables.
