Looking back on this past year, there are two good things that happened.
First, a disease called Lawsonia broke out around December last year, and many sows died.
However, I was happy to see that there have been zero fatalities at Lawsonia this year.
From now on, we will have to be vigilant when managing the sows.
The second was that imported pigs were now managed at the Yokohama Quarantine Station.
The sows raised by the Hanaizumi line start off as pigs imported from Denmark. We can't just bring pigs from Denmark straight to Hanaizumi Farm. This is because they need to be tested for diseases. The place where they are tested for diseases is called the Yokohama Quarantine Station.
Once inside the Yokohama Quarantine Station, the imported pigs cannot leave the station premises until inspection is complete, but it was a great learning experience for me.
