Hello everyone. My name is Sasaki from the Pig Farming Division. Today I would like to talk about deodorizing pig farms.
Pig farms are environments where many pigs are raised, so the smell from pig waste tends to be strong. Pig houses are equipped with exhaust fans that exhaust the air inside the house to the outside. This air contains many substances that cause unpleasant odors, such as ammonia, but the current situation is that in many farms, this air is simply exhausted to the outside. However, we are working on measures to combat this odor.
The photo above shows the deodorizing device at Sakanoue Farm. This device uses a pump to spray water onto a filter, and the odor passes through the wet filter, removing the substances that cause the odor. The dirty water is treated in a septic tank and replaced with new water. (The black part installed on the roof is the filter.)
There are a total of 12 pig houses at Sakanoue Farm, and in May of this year, the installation of deodorizing equipment was completed and all pig houses were equipped with deodorizing equipment. People tend to think that pig farms smell bad, but we will continue to take proper measures to protect the local environment and develop a farm that is rooted in the community.
