At Tategamori Ark Farm, we raise two types of sheep, but most of them are the Suffolk breed.
The Suffolk breed is a breed of sheep with black heads and feet that is also a cartoon character.
It is native to Suffolk, England.
Most individuals have pitch black faces, but there are rare individuals with whitish faces.
This is not a disease, but to put it simply, it is a ``personality''.
Originally, the Suffolk breed is a large meat breed created by crossing the native Norfolk Horn breed with the Southdown breed to produce high-quality lamb meat.
The Norfolk Horn is a breed with black heads and limbs, and as its name suggests, it has horns.
Southdown is a small variety with a white head and limbs, but has good flesh.
When you think about this, it doesn't seem strange that some individuals are sometimes born with pale, whitish faces.
Furthermore, on extremely rare occasions, individuals with horns may be born.
By the way, white-faced lambs seem to be hereditary, and if the mother is white-faced, the lambs will often also have white-faced skin.
The sheep started giving birth last month.
The first lambs born this year were twins with a black face and a white face (^^)
Once the weather warms up a little more, the lambs will be allowed to graze with their mothers to see how they grow.
When you visit, please take a look at the white-faced, horned, and ``individuality'' of the sheep.
*The other variety is called Corridale. It is a fluffy breed with a white face and legs.
Thank you very much for your support!
